Canada Update
If you didn’t read the first update last year, I’d highly recommend it. Especially if you aren’t from or deeply familiar with Canada, some basic context covered in that post will make today’s update much easier to track with.
Scroll halfway through to find the “Part 2: Canada RE Update” heading.
This update covers how Canadian RE markets have moved since October 2023.
Notably, there hasn’t been any huge crash despite sky high interest rates, but there has been a clear cooling and slight 10-20% decline from May 2022 peak in most markets.
The myriad of input factors as discussed in the first post have had their predicted effect of keeping prices up higher for longer than many online commentators have expected, with their constant predictions of a US 2008 style correction.
Canada’s immigration crisis, economic stagnation, and political dynamics of the coming federal election have started to show up in international headlines in recent weeks, so it seemed like the right time for a broader overview of the state of the country. Thankfully, Bull agreed.
Let me know what you think in the comments. Any dynamics I missed? Any questions left unanswered? If there is sufficient feedback and interest, I will write some follow on posts to help fill in the knowledge gaps for folks trying to understand the market and country.
So far, readers seem to agree with the analysis.
Especially to paid readers, thank you for your patience this month, this Canada post took up the bulk of my energy and ended up much more thorough than I expected. I hope it is of service.
