You will be negotiating all your life, you might as well get good at it.
It's not just when buying a car and haggling with the used car dealer.
How do you respond to guilt-inducing requests from needy family members?
How do you handle your manager floating a new project for you that you don't want to get stuck on?

Master Framing
At a meta level, much of negotiation comes down framing.
Will you accept their framing for the topic?
Or will you impose yours partially or fully on them?
One's "frame" could be described as a specific viewpoint on a problem or topic.
The officer approaching you for the speeding ticket may be walking up to your car assuming you are like every other young guy who has a heavy foot and deserves a thick fine to motivate driving within the speed limits.
You may have a different framing that yes you were speeding, but…
